Legacy Tide is a water recreation company in Austin built on our core belief: life is better in the water. We teach swim lessons, offer aquatic fitness and safety programs, and provide lifeguard services, all designed to make time in the water a lasting, joyful part of your life.
We teach in Austin and nearby communities through private pools and local partnerships. Pool locations vary by season and program. If you don’t have a pool of your own, we will work with you to find the best fit.
Most of our lessons are private or semi-private, with no more than three students per instructor. We approach it this way because we’ve found it leads to faster progress, more personalized instruction, and a better experience for both students and instructors.
You may occasionally see us host pop-up classes that have larger groups, but those events are short-term and typically not open to the public.
We teach through readiness, not pressure. Children learn best when they feel safe, curious, and in control. By following their natural readiness and honoring their abilities, we build lifelong confidence in and around water.
Our teaching is based on Montessori principles, where learning happens at your pace. Every lesson starts with patience, curiosity, and respect for the water. We focus on comfort and confidence before technique, so progress feels natural and lasting. Parents learn alongside their kids, creating confidence that grows with them long after lessons end.
Legacy Tide’s instructors are certified, experienced, and deeply committed to helping every swimmer thrive. Many train swim teachers and lifeguards across Central Texas. Each specializes in a particular age group or skill level, ensuring the right fit for every student.
How will I/my child be matched with an instructor?
Our instructors specialize in specific age groups and learning styles. Each instructor teaches within their zone of expertise, ensuring every student is matched with someone who understands their needs and learning pace.
Absolutely. The younger you start, the less fear your child is likely to have later. For swimmers under age two, lessons focus on acclimation, gentle introduction to water movement, and safety readiness. We guide parents on how to read their child’s cues for submersion and skill progression. Nothing is ever forced. Safety is the priority, and we move at the child’s pace, while honoring their abilities.
We welcome swimmers as young as six months. Early lessons focus on comfort, safety, and playful exploration and building familiarity and ease in the water. This approach helps set the foundation for lifelong swimming confidence.
Of course! We believe everyone should be able to enjoy life in the water. Our private adult swim lessons are available for all experience levels, from complete beginners to returning swimmers looking to refine their stroke. We focus on safety, breath control, comfort in the water, increasing strength, and confident movement.
A well-fitting swimsuit, towel, goggles, and dry clothes for after class. Babies and toddlers must wear reusable swim diapers.
Our intake form helps us understand you or your child’s comfort level, experience, and goals. We recommend the best instructor who will customize the class based on your child’s needs, from beginner water exploration to stroke development.
Only if they prefer it. Many kids find them uncomfortable, so we leave it optional. Caps are to help keep hair out of the face, so if you keep your child’s hair securely tied back, it’s not required.
We offer beginner-friendly yet adaptable water aerobics and strength classes. We also occasionally offer a deep-water endurance class, which requires a higher level of fitness and swimming ability.
Yes. Every class is designed to meet you where you are. Our standard classes are welcoming to all fitness levels, with movements that can be modified for comfort and ability. Instructors are always nearby, offering support and encouragement throughout.
Not at all. Most movements are done in shallow water, and our instructors are skilled at helping participants feel safe and supported in the pool regardless of swimming ability.
Bring a towel, water bottle, and a well-fitting swimsuit. Swim caps are not required. Some facilities may require you to bring water weights or other gear, and we’ll let you know ahead of time if that’s the case.
